Wildcat Weather Forecast
Monday, March 9th – 7:40 AM
Headline: We appreciate your patience as we navigate this warm spell!
Good Morning Wildcat Community –
Today’s report will be about transparency, and as I’ve talked about in the past, operating on the back step of Mount Washington is a challenging place to be. The latest spell of weather has exemplified what this means. Saturday’s fog, rain, warm temps, and wind quickly ate away our snow pack requiring us to have to think strategically about where and how we groom to make it through to the upcoming cold weather returning at the end of the week. The top part of the mountain took the hardest hit with the strong inversion of temperatures and higher winds, and we still see a bit more of this in the forecast. With that, we will not have the Wildcat Express Lift open today.
Today’s Operation: Our groomers did a hero’s job last night at rebuilding our core snowmaking trails off of the Tomcat & Snowcat lifts and expect to be skiing and riding on 15 trails with 3 lifts including the Snowbelt. Please note that Wildcat Express Lift will be closed today. Conditions will be firm to start the day as we purposefully groomed early to lock in the terrain while we groomed, and with the warming temps today, should expect to see snow soften throughout the day.
Today’s weather calls for a mix of sun and clouds with highs topping out at 50 – 57 degrees across mountain elevations. Winds are slated to increase throughout the day however we expect to see keep our planned lift footprint running given the forecast.
If you haven’t stopped in to grab your Wildcat logo gear at Wildcat Sports this season, now is the time as select apparel is now 30% as we go into latter part of our winter season. The Bobcat Bar will also be open today serving your favorite libations, including my recommendation to check out our new signature hot espresso beverages with both adult & non-adult options. Feeling like your equipment is a bit sticky today? Stop into the friendly and knowledgeable team in our Rental & Tuning shop where you can get a quick hot wax 10 min for $30.
Looking forward to the rest of the month we have a ton of great events coming up such as hosting the 75th Wildcat Ski Team Sap Run on March 14th & 15th, one of the oldest ski races in the state, and a special Wildcat ski day with the Mount Washington Valley Adaptive Sports program on Saturday March 21st, where new and existing participants can develop their skills on Wildcat’s signature terrain. Finally, we are super excited for the return of the ever popular Spring Fling and Pond Skim on Saturday April 4th, so start planning your costumes and practice sitting in the back seat to make it across. You may even see myself attempting to part the seas and stay “dry”!
Please know that we are working very hard to make the right decisions to not only preserve the snow pack through this spring weather so we can stay open as late into the season as possible, but also keep you all skiing and riding on as much of the mountain as we can right now. We know how important summit access is off the Express, and we are studying the weather and the terrain to get access back as soon as possible. Please stay tuned for further updates very soon, and I greatly appreciate your patience!
