Headline: Seasonable temps on their way back today
Good Morning Wildcat Community –
Today we will thankfully begin to transition out of this nearly weeklong warm spell, as we expect to see some warmer wet conditions this morning transition into snow showers as temps will rapidly drop all day. We are currently sitting around 50 degrees up on the mountain with rain showers, and intentionally kept our grooming footprint limited, focusing on Lower Mountain terrain where the snow is more resilient, while keeping off summit trails to preserve snow pack. With the impending cold, we do expect to see the Upper Mountain begin to lock up, and with the inability to groom, we have decided to close the Wildcat Express for the day and shift operations to the Bobcat lift. While I understand that this is disappointing, access off the Bobcat is where we have the most terrain and best snow pack. Additionally, with temps dropping below freezing by mid-day and with the inability to groom Upper Mountain Terrain, conditions will quickly become unfavorable as the snowpack will lock up.
As mentioned yesterday, this operating plan will continue into tomorrow as the team is waiting and ready to execute on Project Rebuild starting tonight and throughout Friday. They will be putting in many hours throughout the day and night with the intent to reopen from the summit for the weekend with all snowmaking terrain freshened up and looking its best.
We will be open today from 9am – 4pm with 3 lifts and 8 trails including the Bobcat , Snowcat, and Snowbelt lifts. Conditions will be machine groomed loose granular and variable in spots, and as stated above expect see firming conditions throughout the day. We have reduced lift ticket pricing to reflect our changes to terrain availability and appreciate your patience as we make smart decisions to preserve our fragile snowpack.
Despite all this we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back for a great weekend with our signature après in the Wildcat Pub with Melo Green on Saturday and Dan Parkhurst on Sunday. Additionally, we are excited to be keeping the spring racing tradition alive by hosting the 75th Wildcat Ski Team Sap Run on March 14th & 15th on the Cheetah, one of the oldest ski races in the state.
Please know that we are working very hard to make the right decisions to not only preserve the snow pack through this spring weather so we can stay open as late into the season as possible, but also keep you all skiing and riding on as much of the mountain as we can right now. Please stay tuned for further updates very soon, and I greatly appreciate your patience!
